Chinese Philosophy of Heaven-Human Harmony and the Theology of Impurity in the Hebrew Bible

During the pandemic, health authorities in China handed Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) a central role in the battle against Covid-19. It is thus widely accepted by the Chinese public.

The theoretical foundation of TCM is based on Heaven-Human Harmony, a philosophical idea shared by Confucianism, Daoism and Buddhism. In this regard, TCM serves more as a system of social norm than professional healing method.

In the Hebrew Bible, maintaining a good relationship with YHWH is essential for the ancient Israelite communities to avoid sufferings from epidemics, warfare, disasters and so on. The theology of impurity in the Hebrew Bible works as a system of social boundaries.

This paper offers cross-cultural interpretations between Heaven-Human Harmony and the Theology of Impurity in the Hebrew Bible.

The aim of this paper is to diagnose and heal misunderstandings, and to establish communications in this diverse world.
